 FUO intent to become one of the best development partners in empowering fishers to    become prosperous and conserve environment for sustainable development.
Mission
 Is to Empower all fishing communities to have just and prosperous society through capacity building, technical skills and support using participatory approach for sustainable environment livelihood’.
Background
Fishers Union Organisation (FUO) is a fisher’s community non-governmental and non- profit organization established by small scale fishers upon realizing the needs for improved primary health care services, Environmental Conservations  and sustainable development in the fishing communities of Lake Victoria Islands in Tanzania.
The organization established in 2005 and formaly registered in  3rd August 2007 under the non-governmental registration Act of 2002, with regitration number 00NGO/1031, made under section 12 (2) of Act No. 24 of 2002.
The organization’s registration status allows it to operate in all regions of Tanzania Mainland. It is a non-profit making organization, and not affiliated to either political nor religious body or institution.
FUO has a qualified employees from different field of study e.g fishing, planning, accounts, , human resources, social study, Environmental, health, education, land management, Project planning and Management.
Main Objective
To cooperate with various public institutes and private sectors on fishing activities and ensure improvements of Lake Victoria resources, fish ponds, rivers for sustainable fishers’ livelihood.




Specific Objectives  
  • To empower fishing communities, Beach management units (BMU’s) and fishers capacity buildings on sustainable natural resources management.
  •   To provide education to fishing communities on good governance, sustainable fishing, and awareness creation on the effects of drug abuse, homo sexuality and sex-workers.
  •   To conduct various social research and reports to stakeholders on sustainable fishing.
  •   To Lobby and Advocate for strategic plans and good practices which enhance sustainable fishing activities.
  •  To harmonize conflicts between fishing communities and investors. 
Fishers Union Organization has a diversity qualifications and huge experience in promoting and improving primary health care services and sustainable development for small holders’ fishers and the households in fishing communities at the grassroots level, since its inception in 2005, the organization has implemented  several community projects and acquire a huge experiences, track records and trusts due to its well defined organizational policies, structure and professionals human resources and committed management team.

FUO has implemented a numberly of initiatives related to health services and development, Children and youth education as well as environmental issues. FUO has received several funds from different donors such as; FHI 360, TANESA, ADRA(RFE-Fund),Mwanza Policy Initiatives (MPI), lake Victoria Basin Commission (LVBC), Environmental International Agency (EIA-USA), Safina Trust Fund, Family Health International (FHI 360) and Global Fund under AMREF - HIV AIDS 

The financial guideline has been prepared to accommodate international financial standards and it has been updated to accommodate updates information and procedures, the organisation maintains both computerized accounting system (Quick book) and manual tools (cash books) which has been used to record financial transactions.
